Operating room gloves
The differentiation criterion for surgical gloves or medical disposable gloves is the classification of sterile or pathogen-free (“low-germ” or “non-sterile”) products. As a rule of thumb, pathogen-free, i e. non-sterile gloves are sold in large packaging units and sterile ones are aways linked in pairs. Disposable medical gloves have to comply with European Standard 455 (EN 455).
LATEX GLOVES
Resistant to most acids & alkalis but permeable to oils and many solvents. (Attention in case of allergy)
NITRILE GLOVES
More resistant than latex to many chemicals and oils. Even not that suitable for solvents, Nitrile Gloves are currrently most choosen.
PE GLOVES
Polyethylene has a high resistance to acids and alkalis – however, it is not stretchable and therefore does not fit tightly against the skin.
VINYL GLOVES
Less stretchable and tear-resistant than latex or nitrile, but less expensive.
